Workshop 1:
Envision Your Customer

Products are made for people. Who are you building for? In this online workshop, you’ll identify your assumptions about your customers and create a clear picture of their needs and goals with a customer persona.

You will:

  • Choose a customer segment
  • Create a portrait of a single person to represent the segment
  • Identify facts and demographics
  • Brainstorm common behaviors
  • Find needs & goals that your product will solve
  • Consolidate your ideas as a team
  • Identify key assumptions that, if wrong, will cause your business to fail

Workshop 2:
Conduct Quality Interviews

Listening to customers is the best source of inspiration. In this online workshop, you’ll validate your critical assumptions about your customers in live interviews.

You will:

  • List places to find your customers
  • Map the topics you wants to discuss
  • Create an opening line to make you and your customer comfortable
  • Practice a customer interview
  • Stop watching videos and go talk to customers

Workshop 3:
Learn from Your Customer Development

Transform interview notes into action. In this online workshop, you’ll review the notes from your customer interviews and update your customer persona based on what you learned.

You will:

  • Review your notes (You took notes, right?)
  • Convert your notes to a shareable and sortable format
  • Discuss, share, and sort as a team
  • Validate your persona and make changes
  • Decide on next steps
  • Make customer development a habit

Workshop 4:
Capture the Value Proposition

Do your customers understand the value of your product? In this online workshop, you’ll identify what customers will do with your product and focus your value proposition from their perspective, not yours.

You will:

  • Learn basic sketching to communicate your ideas
  • Sketch collaboratively
  • Brainstorm too many value propositions
  • Choose one value to focus on

Workshop 5:
Focus Your MVP

Figure out what not to build. In this online workshop, you’ll simplify your vision to focus on delivering a first version that your customers will love and buy. You'll do this by defining a simple feature set known as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

You will:

  • Brainstorm too many features
  • See which features are easy and which are hard
  • Prioritize
  • Cut any non-critical features
  • Prioritize some more
  • Cut the other non-critical features
  • Repeat if necessary

Workshop 6:
Define Actionable Metrics

Turn data into action. In this online workshop, you’ll identify product metrics that reveal whether your product is delivering value to your customers. The goal is to Measure your traction and be able to communicate it to teammates, mentors, and investors.

You will:

  • Brainstorm everything you could measure
  • Prioritize the metrics that focus on your product
  • Prioritize on tactical metrics for near term goals
  • Prioritize metrics that matter for your entire team
  • Prioritize some more
  • Convert bad vanity metrics to actionable metrics
  • Create a dashboard to show progress over time
  • Set an achievable goal

Workshop 7:
Prepare for Pivots

Learn the difference between pivoting and just changing your mind. In this online workshop, you'll focus your team around a vision and know when to change. You'll do this by identifying your company’s purpose and the values that you will never pivot away from.

You will:

  • Identify core values that your product must reflect
  • Create a team purpose statement
  • Identify how you can and cannot pivot
