The 10-Week Residency is a program for early-stage product teams. The program is radically low priced and tailored to serve lean, agile startups.

The Spring 2012 San Francisco Residency is in progress. Stay tuned for dates for Fall 2012!

Here’s what a Summer ’11 participant says…
“I’m going to use a sports metaphor: As a team, you can’t spend all your time on the playing field. You have to put in time at the gym, building basic skills and developing muscle the right way. Otherwise your body will give out during the game or your team won’t work right together. LUXr is a startup gym.”

The Residency is a 10-week product design program that guides teams as they implement Lean Startup in their organization, with an emphasis on developing a strong product team and exceptional user experience. In each Residency, 5 teams come together at the LUXr studio one day a week to work on their products with the help of UX and Lean Startup experts. It costs about $15,000 per team.

The Residency gives you structured time to develop your product, aligns your team around solid principles of customer development, and embeds good user experience thinking into your company. Residency alumni close funding, win awards, disrupt categories, and gain traction quickly.

The Residency is for founders who…

  • Believe that user experience is core to business success
  • Need to develop an internal design capability
  • Are open to Lean Startup and agile methods

The Residency is for the whole team.

We believe that culture drives success, so every team at LUXr to commits to bringing their developer, designer, and business leader to the residency. You learn to make rational design decisions and validate them collaboratively and quickly.

The residency is a group of teams, helping each other.

In the Residency, teams come together one day a week to solve similar problems side-by-side in real time. Throughout the 10 weeks, cross-team collaboration is encouraged to provide all of us with more ideas, better feedback, and faster problem-resolution.

Working at LUXr

What’s included?

  • 3 participants per company
  • World-class speakers & advisors
  • Cheat sheets, frameworks, and models for making decisions quickly
  • Convenient location with easy access to public transportation
  • We strongly encourage the same participants attend all sessions of the residency.

The Hackathon

One essential skill for all early-stage companies to master is the “Design Sprint”. All teams occasionally need to turn on a dime to change a UI. This requires a level of operational sophistication that can only be achieved through deliberate effort. The hackathon is your final exam — can you define a problem at 10am one day and deploy the code by 3pm the next?
